What is TowerCo?
The idea is to separate an operator of tower facilities from its resources and assigning them under the management of TowerCo. The company that obtains tower facilities enables the sharing of resources among operators, so that each of them incurs lower costs.
The telecommunications infrastructure lease market in Poland is just taking shape and as a country we are at very early stages of its development. However, all analysts agree that this is the direction in which the telecommunications industry will go.
Currently, there are approximately 600.000 radio and telecommunications masts and towers in Europe – out of which 18% are in the hands of specialized companies and infrastructure funds. According to TowerXchange analyses, operators’ savings from tower lease can range from 25% to 35% of operating costs.

TowerCo in Poland and the World

The telecommunications infrastructure lease market in Poland has begun to transform in this direction. The Spanish Cellnex purchased approximately 7,000 facilities from Polkomtel Infrastruktura and a controlling interest in approximately 7,000 P4 facilities. Present on the market is American Tower as well, which actively cultivates its expansion in Poland. Currently, it is the owner of a small part of facilities utilized mainly by the Orange operator.
This is not the end of planned restructuring of the telecommunications market in the country. Talks are currently underway on the purchase of Orange and T–Mobile infrastructures. The world's largest players of the sector are crossing their fingers at the opportunity.
